Outfit of the Day: Updating a Look From My Youth
Hey everyone! How is February treating you? I've had a tremendously busy month so far! I'm excited for Valentine's day coming up, but it always kind of stinks celebrating this lover's holiday in the Midwest. When I go out with my husband, I can't wear any fun, flirty dresses unless I want to freeze and shiver the entire evening! Who wants to do that?
I've been really trying to think about winter outfits that are date-night worthy. And thanks to a local boutique, I have another great outfit choice. Chiquita, the owner of Kiwi's Boutique, located at 1015 South Western Avenue in Chicago, helped me to expand my mind once again!
I must confess that I am one of those people who doesn't like to wear outfits and accessories that I used to like in a previous stage of my life. I spent my fair share of time wearing ponchos and blue jeans in my twenties. That was a long time ago, but the memory of some of my favorite outfits is still etched in my brain.
In an attempt to keep my outfit choices fresh, I ran far, far away from any type of cape or poncho. Granted, this has been difficult since I do like a bit of Bohemian flavor mixed into my wardrobe. But it hasn't been impossible.
So when I met up with Chiquita and she chose to put me in a multi-colored Aztec-inspired poncho with fringe details, it was like returning to an old friend. I suddenly had to ask myself, why have I avoided this type of garment for so long? I've missed this look.
Chiquita said it was a good idea to pair the poncho with skinny jeans or leggings. So I decided to wear the poncho with my favorite pair of black liquid leggings. Have you heard of them? They are leggings that have a wet, leather look to them. You can wear them with all types of tops and dresses. They are a great wardrobe extender and item to dress up your existing pieces.
I loved this pairing and I felt so fabulous in this outfit! Suddenly, I realized we came up with a fun, winter look that any woman should be able to wear for a night out on the town with her beau. And for me personally, updating this look made it work for 2015 and work for who I am now.
To accessorize this outfit, I wore a short necklace with a large crystal pendant, an oversized leather bag (both from Kiwi's Boutique) and my favorite black pumps. I was also able to wear my favorite brown cat eye glasses with this outfit and truly feel like they were in harmony with the whole look. Love, love, love this outfit from head to toe.
I wore a neutral makeup look with a subtle smoky eye, NYX Baked Blush in the color Ignite and NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in the color Natural.
If you don't have any ponchos or liquid leggings in your wardrobe, I suggest you pick some up today! As an added bonus, both fabrics are non-wrinkle. So if you are like me and ygou hate ironing, you will look fabulous anyway.
