So I really wanted to walk you all through what products I keep in my daily makeup bag that I take with me everywhere. I use the products in this tiny little bag to help create my everyday face, as well as my evening and weekend faces. I've found many of these products, most of them drugstore brands, to be dependable and more than adequate for daily wear.
I'm starting off with one of my most beloved products. I absolutely adore the Maybelline Expert Wear Twin Brow and Pencils! I'm sure you've seen these pencils at the store and probably overlooked them. They've been out forever! It can be exciting and fun to go on and try the new product out there but sometimes all the newness can not replace a good ole' trusty like this one.
This pencil comes in three main colors, blonde, light brown and medium brown, according to the website. But I've also seen dark brown and black in the drugstore. I have the pencil in dark brown. I love it because it has a very warm and red undertone to it. I currently have my hair dyed to a medium brown color so this pencil is perfect for me. I bleach my brows and use the pencil to color my brows in using short feather-like strokes.
The pencils have a very soft texture. So you can use a very light hand but end up with a pigmented line that will show up on the skin but not look harsh. If you press the pencil on the skin, the color of the pencil will show up darker, so in that respect, it definitely has some versatility. I use this pencil to fill in my brows everyday.
I also use this same pencil to contour my lips on a daily basis. The soft brown color mimicks the natural line that I have on my lips and it creates a nice soft line that is easy to blend into the rest of my lip area.
You can also use this pencil around the eyes to create a soft smokey look. It is an old school makeup trick to heat up this pencil and line the pencil around the eyes. I tried it once but using the heated pencil around my eyes scared me!!! Maybe I'll revisit the smoulder technique one day. Who knows?
I'd suggest that you pick up these pencils and see if it will either work as a brow, eye or lip color for you. Even if the brow color is a little off, you can use a matte (did she say matte? yes she said matte not shimmer!) MATTE eyeshadow and an angled brow brush to fill lightly fill in the brow with color and correct the color until it works for you.
