Hey everyone! So I had the most amazing time this weekend participating in a stylized bridal photo shoot. In a nutshell, a stylized shoot is when everything is completely staged and planned as though it is the real thing. When one of my favorite photographers, Audrey of Audrey Simper Photography, asked me to participate in one, I knew it would be an opportunity that I couldn't pass up!
Audrey is so great because she puts together the most wonderful concepts. She lets everyone know specifically what she wants from them. And then when everything comes together, she creates magic with the photos she takes. I'm always happy to add her photos to my portfolio :)
So in addition to my makeup services, we rounded off the dream team with hair services by Carmen Marie Hair. Carmen is my old college buddy and a phenomenal hairstylist! And we utilized the fashion services of Holly who owns Dame Couture. Yes please let me tell you about this fabulous bridal dress shop!
Dame Couture is a classy and hip independent, vintage and custom bridal shop located in Evanston, Ill. What is so very cool is that Holly is a seamstress! So she custom fits her bridal dresses to her brides. I have so many good feelings about this shop because I purchased my own bridal gown from a vintage and consignment shop. What is the fun of looking like everyone else when you are getting married? You are right, that is no fun at all.
So, Holly outfited our beautiful and graceful model, Ms. Evelyn Smesh, with the loveliest vintage gown that had a beautiful lace pattern that I've never seen before. Our glam hair artist Carmen gave Evelyn Old Hollywood loose curls so that her hair could channel a different era.
Then I came in with the makeup services! We wanted Evelyn's look to be glamorous, polished but not overdone. Evelyn was also very fair skinned so I had to be careful not to overpower her God given features with any extras I would add in. I applied Face Atelier (a liquid silicon-based foundation) so that it would look as natural and skin-like as possible. So, I made sure to use my lightest soft peach blush, I used a very soft gold contour powder to give her face definition. I used a soft shimmery silver pigment from MAC as a highlight color in her cheek area. I used another pigment that had a pearlized peach/gold finish to it for her eyes, and I used individual eyelashes so that her lashes would stand out but not be as "strong" as a strip. I also wanted it to be completely seemless for the really "tight" shots that the photographer would get of her face. Lastly, I took a tip from my personal clean beauty rule and I picked a lipstick color that was very close to her lips already.
And here is Ms. Evelyn ready for her close up! Polished, nice, soft and very feminine and classy face! I snabbed the shot on the right while we were outside shooting. I also provided grooming services for the gentleman involved in the shoot. Wanna learn a fun fact? This kind fellow is actually Evelyn's fiance Will! He proposed to her several days before our shoot. They were so sweet and cute. So the emotions in these photos are not fake at all. They were so sweet gazing into each others eyes and he kept making me laugh. It almost made me cry. It was just perfect.
The shoot did take place at a forest preserve near Evanston, IL. It was very funny because cyclists kept whizzing by shouting congratulations! It was a picture perfect sunny day but it was EXTREMELY sunny. Also, our graceful model, Ms. Evelyn, had allergies that activated themselves as soon as we set foot in the woods. But guess what? You would never know it judging by the photos. She is a true professional and she knows how to pose for shoots and convey a very specific emotion and look. That is why I love working with models who know their craft. Just because someone is pretty, they can't necessarily be a model. It is hard work to look good and give a specific desired effect and have it come across in a photo.
We were adjusting every few minutes to make sure her dress, hair and makeup were still in perfect condition. Wanna know why? Because we want these photos to be perfect! We all will be using them for our various pursuits so we all put in 110% and it showed!
Here we are at the end of a busy shoot day! We had a blast and our group had a great vibe. See my stepdaughter Kyra on the left? She was the shoot assistant for the day and she had an amazing time. I can't wait for Audrey's professional photos. I know they will be magical :)
